ART

Drawing is something that I had been doing since I was at a tender age of 6. I saw my sister taking art lessons every week, and as a curious young child, I asked my parents to let me try the art lessons. They agreed, and when I tried art for the first time, I instantly fell in love with it. It allowed me to put my creativity on a piece of paper, which was a luxury I did not have without knowing art. I could just imagine a scene, then take out a sketchbook and draw it out.

Like food, drawing is an art form. However, drawing is almost art in it’s most conventional sense. You can take out your 2B pencil along with colour pencils, and you can just colour the image that you have been thinking of for the past 20 minutes.

I might not be the most creative person on the planet, but my mind is always bursting with new ideas and emotions that I constantly want to put on the canvas, and I do so. Look at some of the greatests artists of all time. Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. In my opinion, they do not have the best painting skills out of an artist, and that there are plenty of people better than them at painting, drawing and such. However, their art tells a story. After all, a picture tells a thousand words.

I believe that art is not just about drawing a scenery that you thought of. It is also a fantastic way for one to express themselves, or to tell a story. Abstract paintings are almost perfect for that. Conventional wisdom tells us that red stands for angry, blue stands for sad, and black stands for evil. Abstract paintings allow us to play with those colours and textures to tell a story of our emotions and thoughts.

In the end, drawing is a form of art, a form of storytelling, and also a fantastic pastime to have.
