FOOD
Food is a topic that I had always been interested in. Since I was 6 years old, I already started watching cooking shows as I was interested in how the food in my plate came about.
Food might be something that people may take lightly because they think that food is simply – food. It is something that people just eat on a daily basis to fill their tummies. But I think it isn’t. Making good food is an art, it can be a way for one to express themselves.
I have watched a series of documenteries about famous chefs called Chef’s Table, and one particular chef – Massimo Bottura, has really inspired my life. He is someone who draws inspiration of his food from art, and is very creative about his dishes. He even creates dishes based on real life scenarios, such as his famous ‘Oops! I dropped the Lemon Tart!’ dish, which was based on his sous chef dropping a lemon tart.
These documentaries really explains a chef’s thought process behind the creation of a dish, and although it might seem quite simple and plain to some people, I believe that I, as a person, can have some takeaways from it to let me view life differently, or at the very least, view life from a completely different perspective.
I also visited a few famous restaurants around the world, who have some of the most innovative food around. One restaurant I went to 2 years ago was known as Alinea, in Chicago. It has some of the most imaginative food and sways away from a dining experience in the most conventional sense, with nothing typical about it.
All in all, the experiences I had dining in these restaurants and watching documenteries have led me to the conclusion that food, is not just a something you eat to not go hungry. It is a passion, an art that can go beyond imagination.
